Hi, my name is Huilin Chen, Indian people call me Lin. I am a native Taiwanese, married to an Indian. I have been a search consultant for 12 years in the semiconductor industry recruiting CEO and Engineers. I had my undergraduate in Japan, learned German in Germany, and completed my MBA in the USA.
I have lived in many countries: Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, the USA, India (Mumbai, Gurgaon), and Dubai.
I am married to an Indian from Haryana, and I have 2 kids currently studying in India.
2017 was the first time I came to know that consultants charge Universities abroad a hefty commission fee for sending Indian students. I was shocked, this not only proved that most consultants were biased toward Universities that would pay them but also did not care about the future of Indian students.
I realized that I needed to make a difference. Indian students need consultants that are honest, unbiased, and truly care about the student’s future. This led me to start EduCare Taiwan.
Starting EduCare Taiwan
With only an idea, I started EduCare Taiwan in 2018. I slowly learned the ropes of being a consultant. There were times when things got tough but I and my team were able to grab the upcoming webinar boom from May 2020.
Till now December 2022, we have organized more than 105+ webinars and have more than 26000 Active students participating.
Our first batch of Consultation students all achieved great success in getting admission to their respective desired universities. Even better than we expected, one student obtained the prestigious MoE Scholarship (Deepan Goswami) and another student received the ICDF scholarship (Pratham Kumar). All other Engineering and MBA students received admission to top National Universities along with a tuition waiver.
I was proud of these achievements. Along the way, the EduCare Taiwan Team has strived for the better. We have worked hard to give our best day in and day out for our students and we will continue to do so.
I was born in Taiwan and went to Japan at the age of 21, in year 1998 to learn Japanese and planned to become a Japanese tour guide (in ‘90, it was a economy high time for Japan, a lot of Japanese travel to Taiwan) which is a good paid profession according to me who is from a small village in Taiwan.
I was always the worst performer in our class academically, but studying Japanese in Japan changed me completely to a person who loves to study. As a result I was able to get admission in one of the top Japanese universities with a tuition waiver, receive a scholarship to learn German in Germany and make the decision to go to the States for my MBA. These unthinkable experiences happened to me, to a village girl, all because I was able to step out of my comfort zone in Taiwan. Otherwise, I might end up working at the assembly line like some of my classmates are doing.
With this life-changing overseas studying experience, I strongly encourage all of the young people to explore the world before their 30s and discover their hidden potential.
In India, overseas study means studying in US, UK, Canada.
There are 2 important facts which people have missed,
1. 90% of Indian families can not afford the expensive investment of higher education in US, UK, or Canada without a full scholarship. Especially with limited working visas for Indian students, one will not know whether they can get this investment back in return. Imagine, if a family needs to make a loan against their home which is their life savings to send their child to US/UK to study, after graduation, the student for a few months not able to find a job, then how stressful the situation the student has put the whole family into.
Anyone who is capable, can make his/her bright future with their own hands no matter where they study and which company they start working.
2. The economic power has shifted from West to East.
Asian countries are the manufacturing hub for the world and the importance of this fact is increasingly emphasized when all MNCs are looking for diversification of their supply chains. More job opportunities will be in the East than the West.
In 2018, I had the opportunity to meet a group of Taiwanese professors coming to Mumbai to promote Taiwan higher education to Indian students, but there were not many Indian students interested in Taiwan due to lack of adequate information. I think this is such an unfortunate thing that Indian students miss out on a high chance to “Study for Free” in Taiwan, because of various programs and resources / scholarships available in Taiwan.
Then I decided to set up EduCare Taiwan!
To increase the awareness of the benefits of studying in Taiwan and provide correct and “ student- oriented” consultation.
I found that the majority of overseas consultants in India do not charge students, but they receive the commission pay-back from the student’s tuition fee from the university which they introduced the students to. So the overseas consultants are not working for students to find the best fit courses to study, but to guide the students to those universities which pay them the commission!
At spring of 2019, I found EduCare Taiwan. I thought EduCare Taiwan can fly high because :
the high quality education that Taiwanese universities provide – Top 5 Taiwan universities have better world QS ranking than Top IITs,
the affordable cost- tuition + living cost a year = 6 lacs without any scholarship. However, more than 50% of the students will receive different kinds of tuition waiver and scholarship. A student with the GPA of 8 and good supporting documents, the family only needs to prepare 4 lac for him/ her to complete his/ her post graduation or PhD ( or even both combined) . This is an even cheaper cost than studying in India.
But I was wrong, we struggled because of the low awareness about Taiwan and the “ free overseas consultant” practice in India.
The turning point was the Covid pandemic. In 2020 May, we host our first Zoom webinar in which we have invited Taiwanese university to come to present and let Indian students to have platform to know about correct and updated information about Taiwanese universities and live interaction with Taiwanese professors who they are interested in their research.
Till today, we have host 100 + weekly / bi weekly webinars, more than 45,000 + signed up and 15000+ Indian students/ faculties participated in EduCare Taiwan’s webinars.
We have witnessed hundreds of Indian students repeatedly join our informative webinar with our consultancy or applied for admissions themself, they all are enjoying the high-quality learning environment, engaging in various challenging but practical industrial projects, and receiving a good job offers even before they graduate.
Once they have 25 lac yearly salary, they are sending money home to improve their family life in India. The children in their neighborhood will get inspired and follow their steps to study in Taiwan. Sometimes, the whole village, the whole city, the whole state eventually studying in Taiwan give the fruit to the whole India.
